Road projects boost Iloilo communities

More road projects worth P10.9 million were recently turned over by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to boost farming potentials of Barangay Btac in the municipality of Viejo, Iloilo.

The projects include the rehabilitated 2.66 kilometers San Geronimo Basinang national road junction, the 0.50-kilometer newly constructed stretch of Lipata - Sitio Nagpana road and the 4-kilometer road that connects Toll House - California to Ugasan-Lipata road.

Viejo Mayor Raul C. Tupas said that the road projects are expected to ease transportation of 120 agrarian reform beneficiaries in San Geronimo Agrarian Reform Community and the residents from the neighboring barangays.

He Viejo added that the P45,000 average household annual income of farmers in San Geronimo six years ago, has doubled to P80,000 following the construction of infrastructure support projects such as farm-to-market roads from DAR foreign-assisted projects.

The DAR said that the projects were implemented in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways under the Agrarian Reform Community Project (ARCP).

ARCP is joint project of the DAR and Asian Development Bank in support to agrarian reform communities (ARCs) nationwide. ARCs are groups of barangays where support services from CARP-implementing agencies, local government, non-government organizations and foreign-donor communities are implemented. (DA)
