Cebu-based shipbuilding firm Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu), Inc. (THICI) on Friday launched its first pure car and truck carrier in Balamban town in the province’s western seaboard.
THICI is a joint venture of Tsuneishi Heavy Industries of Japan and the Cebu-based Aboitiz group.
The pure car and truck carrier has a capacity of 5,100 cars or 4,300 cars and trucks. It has 12 decks and a service speed of 19.3 knots. Its length is 170 meters, breadth of 32.2 meters, depth of 34.8 meters, full loaded draft of 9.5 meters and a gross tonnage of about 52,400 tons.
A Norwegian company ordered the ship from Kambara Kisen Co. Ltd. of Japan chaired by Makoto Kambara.
Kambara and his wife, foreign dignitaries and officials from the Naval Forces Command Central and the Central Command (Centcom) attended the ship’s launching.
Tsuneishi is now working on its second order for a similar ship. (PNA)
